I desire to search for memories and values there in order to repair them
I listen and record sound of lives, waiting for a new day

Nume thinks of cardboard as an ecological material with a limited life span, that can be recycled when the children grow and the objects are no longer used. It is also light, easy to transport and simple to fold away for storage.
The white surface allows endless interpretative solutions; it is a pure starting point on which to express ones creativity and imagination, leaving the child with infinite possibilities of activity and interaction.

Title: Wound repairing
1. Record sound for how I repair / reproduce the 2nd handed goods
2. To let audience imagine the process of how I repair / reproduce them
3. Show the original look by photos + present look
NO video X
Number of goods:47 (represents the opening time in Dawn Market 4a.m-7a.m)
"Wound repairing" is in present continuous tense. It's because the recording is looping the sound from the reparing action. I'll take photos mainly forcus in parts of the objects. They are "wound" that going to be repaired. Why did people forgive something easily? It is because they exaggerate their defect rather than treasure. I'll present it like a “畫鬼腳”

Home----feel free to touch me, arrange me 2
Home: Feel free to touch me or re-arrange me
Media:
Mixed media
Artist Statement:
The 2nd handed goods in the Dawn Market like orphans living in an orphanage, waiting for their new parents. A home is needed for them to escape from reality and receive parental care. I gather them together to form a new family. Audience are encouraged to touch and re-arrange them. Their exstence become meaningful while the use of their frequency increase.
Process:
1. I will buy the 2nd handed goods from the Dawn Market
2. Clean and repair / re-produce them
3. Give them a re-birth date lable
4. Gather them to form a new family, displays like a home
5. Audience are welcomed to touch and re-arrange them
6. A recording will be played to let audience experience lives in the market
___________________________________________________________
Initially, I decided to display my work like a“格仔舖”, and sell/give them to others after show. However I find that the importance for the 2nd handed goods(or any other things) is to let people realize their existence. They will not mean anything while they are being ignored. In contrast, their exstence become meaningful while the use of their frequency increase.
Home----feel free to touch me, arrange me 1
There are variety of goods in the market. They are 2nd handed goods collected by the hawkers there. Most of the people in the Dawn Market, no matter buyers or sellers, are live under poverty. However, they have more or less the same expectation, that is to improve lives within their ability. For people who live with confortable environment and adequate food will not understand their feelings and needs. They rarely wear smile on their face but with hope in their eyes. Although their goods for sell are cheap, the little amount of money within the 3 hours is already able to offer them 3 meals.
I record the sound in the market everytime during the visit. What I hear is the realistic lives of the minority.

I expecially went to the Dawn Market on Sunday, the 3rd April,2011. There are more hawkers than Monday to Saturaday. A lot of youngsters went there to experience lives of the people in the Dawn Market.
I have made some research about the Dawn Market from the internet before going there. However, it is different from experienced it by going there. One of the hawker told me that less people would like to bring their goods for selling, because they found that there are less people go to the Dawn Market nowadays. That's why their motivation to sell goods decrease.

Work from Dr.Leung MeePing--Daily

"Daily" is a roofless glass house made from more than 2,000 glass bricks in which quotidian objects collected from the Chiayi citizens were inserted, together with around 20 bricks collected from eight regions in Asia. Dr. Leung said she hoped to present what the ordinary people treasure through the collected objects and to show the importance of local culture in the context of globalisation. The bricks collected from different Asian regions convey the unity and texture of land in Asia and reflect the diversity of integrated ideas in Asia. Under sunlight and twilight, the shadows of the objects in the glass bricks are enlarged, further highlighting the lives of the Chiayi citizens and offering a strong contrast to the splendid Museum.
In response to her works being selected for display in Shanghai and Taiwan, Dr. Leung said: "The production of public sculptures involves a series of complicated procedures and I learned a lot through the organisation and production process as well as exchanges with other artists. I realised that both the Mainland and Taiwan are advanced in the area of public art and they are also greatly concerned with the integration of art and culture. On the contrary, Hong Kong has little open space to accommodate public sculptures. I therefore wish that the development of Tamar in Hong Kong will cater to the development of public art and extend its community cultural elements further."

Cheaperman

Aim: We should treasure everything no matter it is life or not.
Others: Sham Shui Po is one of the most poorest districts in Hong Kong. People living there are very poor. I believe that it is one of the reason why stuffs there are really cheap. We should care for the needy. For example, the low income families, vagrants, oldest, scavenge person, the minorities...etc. Most of the sellers in the Dawn market are poor. They work very eraly at around 3a.m-6a.m everyday in order to avoid being arest by the police. People will not care or recognise them as they are work before sunrise.
Artist statement: It's all about history and memory. What are their value? Where could they been?
Process:
I'll visit and buy somthing in the Dawn market in Sham Shui Po. Goods are being repaired and reproduced. They are used to be useful and valuable to somebody, somewhere or sometime. In fact, it's important to understand the story behind the goods through interviewing the sellers there.

Process:

What can you buy for a dollar in Hong Kong? A trial-size sample of shampoo? Or maybe a high-heeled shoe from Granny Han! Granny, 87, is a street hawker who can usually be found at her pitch on the corner of Pei Ho Street and Lai Chi Kok Road...

>>>>>plants getting smaller V.S insects getting bigger
finally and hopefully insects will become butterflies
Theme: Documetary life/lives experience, Past and Future
Title: ________________________
Approach:
1) Using transparent sheets overlapping each other to indicate time pass
2) Showing the past and future which depend on looking in front or back of the work
Insight:
1) The nature is great!
2) Can it be applyed to the “Urban Renewal Development" ? Plants represent the map/location being removed. Insects represent developers and time (Time become a destroyer here!!!!). Butterflies represent good hope and will (to be positive). It seems that the Urban Renewal Development is not welcomed by some of the citizents and Collective Memories supporters. I understand that everything has its pros and cons. There indeed no actual answers at all. However its better to be positive towards lives like what an insect has been done.

Progression 1
>there must be something that people tresure, care, and love
>to observe, to care before something is going to be removed / disappeared
>to predict which area / district / location to be the next Collective Memories in HK
>find out the relationship between facilities / infrastructure / buildings and people
2. Study of Sham Shui Po
>there are lots of old and short bulidings which are going to be removed. However I find that the actions have been taken slowly by the government
>the goods are actually very cheap there
>there are some renowned streets that people love to go(especially men).
e.g. Apliu street (selling electronic stuffs)
Yen Chow Street (a famous area for buying clothes, location of the Police Station)
Fuk Wing Street (a place for wholeselling / selling toys where both children and adults love to go).....etc.
3. Solution
>Though It is not a modernized district with advanced facilities and famous brand new shops, the districts attract so many local people and foreigners to visit everyday
>It is a place where people acustomed to go because they can save money for the lower price goods when compare with other place.
>It becomes valuable memories as time goes by
>People may focus on the old bilidings for the topic of Collective Memory, as they symbolise or show the passing moment. However the fact is that a place which can become one of the "Collective Memory" of people is the history, goods and the contribution of shop managers.
>>>>>>Time plays an important role to prove the success of a place to acquire the honor of "Collective Memory"
